General Information
This reserve protects various forms of cultural expressions, natural areas, and species in the region. It is in the Pasco region, and its creation took place between 2000 and 2009, initiated by the first Coordination Committee of the Biosphere Reserve. They proposed the idea to the Ministry of the Environment due to the formation of the "Biosphere Reserve Working Group." Later, the name changed to its current designation, the "Oxapampa Asháninka Yánesha Biosphere Reserve" (BIOAY). The reserve covers an area of 1.8 million hectares, including the Yanachaga Chemillén National Park.

The designation of a location as a Biosphere Reserve not only brings tourist benefits but also provides significant advantages to the local population, scientists, farmers, foresters, fishermen, and government entities. These benefits include:

Protection of soil and water as essential resources: Preserving fertile soils and drinking water sources is the key to maintaining the quality of life and food security for the local community.

Adoption of alternative resource management strategies: The implementation of sustainable practices and the diversification of energy sources and resources contribute to community resilience and stability.
Access to an international database with scientific information: The availability of global scientific data provides scientists with a valuable source of information for their research.
- Farmers, Foresters, Fishermen:
Possibility to conduct long-term studies, such as the effects of climate change or water regimes: Environmental protection facilitates the conduct of long-term studies that can shed light on crucial issues, such as the impacts of climate change and variations in water supply.
Valorization of local products: The designation as a Biosphere Reserve increases the value and demand for local products, allowing farmers, foresters, and fishermen to obtain higher prices and expand their markets.
- Authorities and Governmental Organizations:
Greater involvement in decisions regarding land use: The designation as a Biosphere Reserve often involves active participation by local communities towards land usage, giving them greater control and a voice in the sustainable management of natural resources in their region. Additionally, it allows the implementation of policies and programs for sustainable resource management, strengthening the technical and institutional capacity of government agencies and thereby enhancing their effectiveness in environmental protection and conservation.
Recognised by Unesco the 2 of june 2010. This important for our rich biodiversity in Peru and should be talked more about. This being the home to more than 237 marine species
We should look this more because problems like deforestation are still present in the day to day, the absence of the State to control and monitor some activities.
It is important to understand what we have with this reserve, we should appreciate it more and understand that there are lots of species.

The Oxapampa-Asháninka-Yanesha Biosphere Reserve is a protected area that plays a crucial role in biodiversity conservation, the protection of indigenous community rights, and the promotion of sustainable tourism in the region.
